Based on recent Lands of America data, New York ranks eighth in the United States for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, New York ranks 19th. Internal data from Lands of America lists almost $9 billion in land for sale in the Empire State. The overall size of land for sale in New York is 439,133 acres. Of the 62 counties in the state, Dutchess County had the most land and farms for sale. There were 1,562 acres of sold land in New York recorded in January through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a nine percent rise in sales activity over the month before, with a combined land value of $9 million for all property and land sold in the state. The most land sales in the state last month were located in Lewis and Oneida County. Approximately three-quarters of a million New Yorkers and visitors hunt in the state annually, although most hunt on private land. The state numbers 215 state and national parks, many of which are open to hunting. New York's waterways, including more than 7,500 lakes and ponds, 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, and thousands of miles of coastline count 165 species of fish. In terms of its size, New York is the country's 27th-largest state, covering an area of 54,475 square miles (35 million acres). Of its total landmass, 47,126 square miles of the state is land, while the remaining 7,429 square miles comprises water. Wildlife to be found on land for sale in New York include whitetail deer, turkey, geese, quail, ducks, and grouse. Anglers have their pick of bass, pike, catfish, walleye, trout, and salmon.
