Lands of America data lists $688 million in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale for sale in the Empire State. This represents 135,515 acres of New York land for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $10 million, though the median price for land for sale in New York was $320,993. The average price of farms, ranches and other land for sale in New York was $390,032. There was 1,387 acres of sold land in New York recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a 14 percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $4.8 million. Approximately three-quarters of a million New Yorkers and visitors hunt in the state annually, although most hunt on private land. The state numbers 215 state and national parks, many of which are open to hunting. New York's waterways, including more than 7, 500 lakes and ponds, 70, 000 miles of rivers and streams and thousands of miles of coastline and count 165 species of fish. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in New York. Of New York's 62 counties, Sullivan County had the most land and rural real estate for sale. In terms of size, New York is the country's 27th-largest state, covering an area of 54,475 square miles (35 million acres). Of this area, 47,126 square miles (87 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 7,429 square miles is covered by water.
