Based on recent Lands of America data, New York ranks 10th in the country for the combined number of properties currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, New York ranks 19th. Recent internal data lists about $10 billion in land and rural real estate for sale in the Empire State. The overall size of land for sale in New York is more than 471,000 acres. Of the 62 counties in the state, Dutchess County had the most rural property and land for sale. There were 1,364 acres of sold land in New York recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $7 million. The most land sales in the state last month were located in Lewis County. Approximately three-quarters of a million New Yorkers and visitors hunt in the state annually, although most hunt on private land. The state numbers 215 state and national parks, many of which are open to hunting. New York's waterways, including more than 7,500 lakes and ponds, 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, and thousands of miles of coastline count 165 species of fish. In terms of its size, New York is the country's 27th-largest state, covering an area of 54,475 square miles (35 million acres). In its entirety, 47,126 square miles is made up of land, while the remaining 7,429 square miles is covered by water. Wildlife species to be found on land for sale in New York include whitetail deer, turkey, geese, bear, quail, and grouse. Anglers have their choice of bass, pike, catfish, walleye, trout, and salmon.
